India releases 88 fishermen    LAHORE Wagah Border : The Indian government on Sunday released 88 Pakistani fishermen.The India authorities handed over the fishermen to the Pakistan Rangers officials at the Wahga Border near here Rangers sources said.On their arrival the Punjab Rangers welcomed the fishermen with sweets and garlands.While there were reports in the media about the release of nine more Pakistani fishermen whose nationality had been confirmed by the government of Pakistan as per available records the Home Ministry said it had not received any communication in this regards.Release and repatriation of the remaining 27 Pakistani fishermen lodged in jails in Gujarat will be considered by the government as and when their nationality is confirmed by the Pakistani High Commission the statement added.India has already communicated the decision to release the 88 Pakistani fishermen to their high commission here and was now awaiting for the exit documents from that mission official sources said.They were released after being imprisoned from nine months to one and a half year.He had also said that Pakistani authorities have verified that these fishermen are indeed nationals of that country.The relief came in the wake of PM Modi calling up the Pakistan Prime Minister to wish him on the occasion of Ramzan on June 16 and stressing the need for having peaceful and friendly bilateral ties.Modi had also conveyed to Sharif India decision to release detained Pakistani fishermen on the occasion of Ramzan, a move seen as a bid to lower tensions between the two countries.In a series of tweet PM Modi wrote earlier-These fishermen were in police custody after they were released by a district court earlier.These fishermen were in police custody after they were released by a district court earlier.India releases 88 fishermenIndia releases 88 fishermen fishermen-in-pak
